Lily Williamson is a senior attending Briarcrest Christian School. This is her second and final year in OneVoice. Throughout her years at Briarcrest she has participated in various athletics and has been very involved in the fine arts program and honors choirs. Aside from OneVoice, she takes vocal lessons at E.Studio where she sings in a vocal group called Luxe alongside writing some of her own songs. Lily would like to thank the Lord for his continual grace, Dr. Frizzell for this wonderful opportunity, her past and present fellow OneVoice members and her friends for their continual support, and for her loving family who is always there for her.
Lexy Branch is a junior at Briarcrest Christian School. This is her first year in OneVoice, and she is a Mezzo/Alto. Along from OneVoice, Lexy is also involved in both the Concert and Chamber choir here at Briarcrest. She works hard at getting good grades and always looks to improve. She is thrilled to have this opportunity, and looks forward to growing with the group.
Emma Grace Kelly
Emma Grace Kelly is a sophomore at Briarcrest Christian School. This is EG’s first year in OneVoice and she sings Mezzo-Soprano. She is a member of the Honors Chamber Choir and participated in Briarcrest’s production of Into the Woods as Little Red Riding Hood in February. She is honored to be given the opportunity to be in this amazing group and cannot wait for all of the new experiences.
Avery Veteto is a Junior at Briarcrest Christian School, and this is her first year in OneVoice. She sings Mezzo/Alto/Tenor for OneVoice. Avery is involved in many different activities such as Theatre, Honors Chamber Choir, National Honors Society, National Spanish Honors Society, Wilson’s Society, Spanish Club, and Team Up for St. Jude. She is also 12th chair for Alto 2 in All-West Tennessee Honor Choir. Avery is very involved in her youth group at the Orchard Church where she leads worship and help out whenever she can. Avery is very thankful to God for her talent and giving her so many amazing opportunities. She is also very thankful to her supportive parents for their love and Dr. Frizzell for his great guidance and instruction
Hayden Gray is a junior and is the bass for OneVoice. This is his second year in OneVoice, and he is very excited to get the opportunity to be in this group. He plays football and runs track for Briarcrest. He plays baseball and basketball outside of school. He is excited for the next two years hopefully to be in the group and grow as a singer and as a person. He is also thankful for the support of his family and his friends.
Kallen Miller, a sophomore and first year member, is thrilled to follow in the footsteps of OneVoice excellence. She is excited to have the opportunity to learn and grow in her choral experience with an amazing group of performers. She is a member of the Spanish Club, the LeBonheur Club, and participates in choir and theater. She seeks to work in the glory of God to develop her skills in music and choral performance. She thanks God, her family and friends who support OneVoice and their endeavors.
Benjamin Cheng is a sophomore and is the Vocal Percussion and Tenor for OneVoice. He also performs for Briarcrest, community and professional theatres with highlight as Billy in Billy Elliot in the US Regional production. He has received the HSTMA Rising Star award in 2016 and was nominated for Supporting Actor in 2017. He seated first chair in 2016 ASJH Honor Choir and third chair in 2017 ASWSH Honor Choir. He studies vocally from Carolyn Cansler and dance instruction from the Performing Arts of Germantown. Though he might be quiet off the stage, he loves to perform and dance, and excels in academics at school and is the Chaplain of the French Club. He loves his family and friends for always supporting him in his endeavors and performs for an Audience of One and thanks Him for the talents he has been given.
Sarah Mikkola is a junior at Briarcrest Christian School. This is her first year in OneVoice and she sings alto/mezzo. She is a member of the Honors Chamber Choir at Briarcrest and she was selected for ASWJH honor choir twice. She enjoys the theater and has participated in many Briarcrest productions. Her school activities include Key Club, Wilson Society, BSAC (Briarcrest Students Affect Change), Spanish Club, Spanish Honors Society, National Honor Society, and she is an ambassador for Briarcrest. Sarah takes vocal lessons from Megan Mcneely at E. Studio. She also enjoys playing the piano, painting, and photography. Sarah performs for an audience of one and seeks to honor God in everything she does. She is grateful to her family and friends for their unwavering support and to Dr. Frizzell for investing his musical passion and talents in the students at BCS.
Sophie Bassett is junior at Briarcrest Christian School. This is her second year in OneVoice, and she sings the voice part of mezzo. Aside from OneVoice, Sophie is a member of the Honors Chamber Choir. She is a participant in many clubs, such as Key Club, Wilson’s Society, Latin Club, BSAC, and National Honors Society. Sophie also takes voice lessons and focuses heavily on her difficult academic courses, giving glory to God in all the work she does. She is very blessed to be a part of the group and loves to learn and grow each day. Sophie would like to thank her loving parents, all OneVoice members, and her wonderful grandparents whom cheer her on from Indiana.
Mady Thornburg is a junior at Briarcrest Christian School. This is her first year in OneVoice, and sings soprano 1. Aside from OneVoice, Mady is involved in the Briarcrest Chamber Choir and Theatre program. She takes private voice lessons from Lynden Jones every week, and loves to continually push herself to improve. She hopes to major in music when she goes to college, and continue her passion. Mady is extremely grateful for this opportunity and would like to thank her family, friends, and Dr.Frizzell for their endless support.
Jack Hollis, III is a sophomore at Briarcrest Christian School, and this is his first year as a member of OneVoice. Jack sings tenor/baritone and feels truly blessed to be a part of such an amazing group. In addition to his love for music, Jack is also a member of the Briarcrest Bowling Team and is a two-year letterman. He is also very involved in his church and summer outreach ministry to the youth of our city. One of Jack’s favorite passages of scripture is Psalm 28:7.
Josiah Parker is a Senior at Briarcrest Christian School. This 2017-2018 school year is his first year in OneVoice. This humble young man loves to share his God given gift to sing. From the time he could barely hold a microphone, he has expressed his passion for music. As a result, his gift has made room for him to reach many. Josiah is a leader in school, serves in many areas in the ministry in which he is a faithful member, and he also is a part of the Shelby County “Mayor’s Youth Council”. Josiah thanks God, his parents, church, Dr.. Frizzell, and friends for their continual support.
Dr. J.D. Frizzell
J.D. Frizzell, a composer, conductor and baritone, is the Director of Fine Arts and Director of Vocal Music at Briarcrest. He earned the Doctorate of Musical Arts Degree in Conducting from The University of Kentucky. Dr. Frizzell earned double Master’s in Music Theory/Composition and Conducting from The University of Southern Mississippi, where he also earned a Bachelor’s degree in Music History and Literature.
As the Director of the Fine Arts department at Briarcrest Christian School, Dr. Frizzell is responsible for coordinating all Fine Arts programs (K2-12th grade). He also serves as an advocate and school liaison for all of our outstanding visual, musical and dramatic arts at Briarcrest. As the Director of Vocal Music, he teaches the Honors Chamber Choir, Concert Choir, and OneVoice.
Dr. Frizzell, winner of the 2007 Intégrales Composition Contest, has had best-selling works published throughout the world by many major companies. In 2011, the board of the Tennessee Music Educators Association named him the Outstanding Young Music Educator of the Year. He was also awarded the Dr. Clair E. Cox Award for Teacher Excellence. In 2013, Dr. Frizzell was named one of Memphis’ Finest Young Professionals by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation for his philanthropic efforts. He also volunteers as the President of the A Cappella Education Association.
