Dayton Leach is a Senior at Briarcrest Christian High School. This is his second year in Onevoice as a vocal percussionist. He is a football player and a State Champion High Jumper. He is very passionate about acappella music and about beatboxing. His favorite singers are Jamie Foxx, Tank, and James Arthur. He would like to thank Mr. Frizzell for giving him the opportunity to be in OneVoice.
Ariana Wright is a senior at Briarcrest Christian High School. This is her first year in OneVoice as an alto/tenor, and she is very excited and thankful for this kind of opportunity. Ariana cheers for the varsity basketball team and has been apart of the Briarcrest Fine Arts Program for 5 years. She plans to attend the University of Tennessee at Knoxville in the fall and try out for the a cappella group there. She would like to thank Mr. Frizzell, the rest of OneVoice, and God for inspiring her to be the best she can be.
Wesley Abington is a senior at Briarcrest Christian School. This is his second year in One Voice and he is very thankful to be given this great privilege in his high school career. He is a tenor and enjoys singing very much. He plays soccer and is an All-State wrestler. With the help of Mr. Frizzell and great classmates, Wes desires to get better and better everyday.
Katherine Ann Mohler
Katherine Ann Mohler is a senior at Briarcrest Christian School and sings Alto/Mezzo for OneVoice. She is very involved with the school’s fine arts program in the theatre and honors choir departments. Katherine Ann has been placed as first chair for the All South-West Tennessee Honor Choir and first chair in the All State Tennessee Honor Choir. She is also highly active in her youth group where she sings on the worship team every Sunday and Wednesday. Katherine Ann loves being a part of the clubs that Briarcrest has, such as Step Up for St. Jude Club, Wilson’s Society, Spanish Club, Key Club, and International Club. This is Katherine Ann’s third year in OneVoice, and she is very thankful to be a part of the group.
Hayden Gray is a sophomore and is the bass for onevoice. This is his first year in OneVoice, and he is very excited to get the opportunity to be in this group. He plays football and runs track for Briarcrest. He plays baseball and basketball outside of school. He is excited for the next two years hopefully to be in the group and grow as a singer and as a person. He is also thankful for the support of his family and his friends.
Megan Cheng is a senior this year at Briarcrest Christian School. She is in her second year in One Voice as a soprano/mezzo. Excluding One Voice, her extra curricular activities include local community and professional theatre, a scout organization, and volunteer work. She takes vocal lessons from Carolyn Cansler. She is passionate about the fine arts and hopes to put her best foot forward in her college career and future work. She thanks God and Briarcrest for the amazing opportunity of singing in this group.
Sydney Sparks is a Senior at Briarcrest Christian School. She takes vocal lessons from Carolyn Cansler and is also very involved in the Briarcrest Choral and Theatre program. This is Sydney’s second year in OneVoice, and she usually sings Alto/Mezzo in the group. She is extremely grateful for this wonderful opportunity and the experiences she has been able to make throughout her years in OneVoice. Sydney would like to thank The Lord, her fellow OneVoice members, her family, Mr. Frizzell, and everyone else who works to make our program what it is.
Elena Gentleman is a senior at Briarcrest Christian High School. This is her first year in OneVoice. She is very involved with the theatre program at Briarcrest and has been a part of the school’s swim team for 4 years. She is also a volunteer with Hope Presbyterian Church. She participates in the Wilson’s Society, French Honor Society, and the National Honor Society at Briarcrest. Aside from OneVoice, she takes voice lessons from Carolyn Cansler every week and is planning to keep singing in college. She would like to thank Mr. Frizzell, Mrs. Cansler, her family, friends, and God for pushing her to be the best she can be.
Sophie Bassett is sophomore at Briarcrest Christian School. This is her first year in OneVoice, and she is a mezzo. Aside from OneVoice, Sophie takes voice lessons and focuses hard on academics. She is very blessed to be a part of the group and loves to learn and grow each day.
Lily Williamson is a junior attending Briarcrest Christian School. This is her first year in OneVoice. Throughout her years at Briarcrest she has participated in various athletics and has been very involved in the fine arts. Aside from OneVoice, she takes vocal lessons at E.Studio. Lily would like to think Mr. Frizzell for this wonderful opportunity, her fellow OneVoice members and friends for their continual support, and for her loving family who is always there for her.
Jeremy Beloate is a senior at Briarcrest Christian School and sings Baritone in OneVoice. This is his second year in the group. Aside from the OneVoice, Jeremy studies classical voice with Carolyn Cansler. He is also very involved in school and community theatre. He is a 4 year member of the Orpheum’s Star Council. He would like to thank his parents and vocal teachers for being so loving and supportive.
J.D. Frizzell, Director
J.D. Frizzell, a composer, conductor, and baritone, is the Director of Fine Arts and Director of Vocal Music at Briarcrest Christian School in Memphis, TN. He is currently a candidate for the DMA in Choral Conducting Degree at the University of Kentucky. Frizzell, winner of the 2007 Intégrales Composition Contest, has dozens of choral and handbell works published by Alfred, Colla Voce, Lorenz, Heritage Press, and Choristers Guild. He was chosen by the board of the TN Music Educators Association as the 2011 Outstanding Young Music Educator.
A leader in the contemporary a cappella movement, Frizzell is the co-founder and President of The A Cappella Education Association (acappellaeducators.org). His high school a cappella group, OneVoice, is a SONY Recording Artist, hailed as “one of the best high school a cappella groups of all time” by Deke Sharon. He has appeared at state, regional, and national ACDA and NAfME conventions as a conductor, performer, and composer. With a passion for investing in music education through entrepreneurship, Frizzell has founded two companies, CadenzaOne and The Choir Coach.
